Curriculum

What makes us different?

We are asked this question quite often during a tour.  We have found our niche among preschools in our area by concentrating our curriculum to follow the MA State Frameworks developed by the MA Dept. of Education.

We incorporate, through play, math, science, social studies, reading, and above all a love and interest in learning.  When you walk through our doors, you will feel the “warm and fuzzies” but see the tools we use to help us select supplies and equipment to match the needs of our students.

Academic Pre-School (Preschool)

Our preschool program accepts children 2 years and 9 months of age through age 3.  Children need to be potty-trained, recognizing their need to use the bathroom as there are no diaper changing tables in our classrooms.

Our preschool program focuses on academics this age is ready to learn, from classification to pencil grasp and recognizing their name in print.  The need to get along with one another, sharing, taking turns, taking care of each other’s feelings and contributing to a peaceful environment. Our teacher’s encourage self-help skills which foster a healthy self-image and independent thinking.

Academic Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K)

Our pre-kindergarten enrolls children who will turn 4 years of age by December of that school year.  Our pre-reading program uses the nationally acclaimed Abram’s Land of the Letter People program.  Our 4’s “travel” to far away countries, explore regions of the United States , making connections to our diverse families.  We encourage healthy character building to ensure children continue to care for one another.

We offer a developmentally-appropriate, integrated, academic curriculum program to give children a rewarding and challenging year through PLAY.

Junior Kindergarten (Jr-K)

Our Jr. Kindergarten program is unique!  We enroll children turning 5 in September, October, November and December, who have missed the public kindergarten enrollment cut-off date.  Children who have turned 5 and may just need that extra year before kindergarten are also encouraged to apply.

It is a challenging curriculum focusing on reading, math, science and social studies.  Building good character is also the basis for self-regulation and self-control.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten curriculum focuses on core subject areas including reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and the arts. Students are taught using fun, engaging thematic units throughout the year. Specialty classes including Music and Fitness are each held once per week as well. Our Kindergarten classroom offers a variety of learning materials for children to explore in both independent and group settings. Because our program follows Massachusetts and NAEYC guidelines, each student is immersed in a positive learning environment to foster a strong educational foundation. Specialty Classes

In addition to our wonderful curriculum happening in our classrooms, on specific days, we also offer, to all students, ABC Music and Me developed by the acclaimed Kindermusik International, and fitness which focuses on goal nutrition and keeping our bodies healthy.

Staffing

Low staff turnover is the key to consistent care for our children. Due to our small size, the children are familiar with all of our personnel. All of our teachers must be certified by the state of Massachusetts and be experienced in the early childhood education. The teachers also continually increase their knowledge through professional development trainings, workshops and continuing education classes.

We also have a wonderful cook, a certified, licensed dietician, providing all meals and snacks. Her focus is on fresh fruits and vegetables when possible, child friendly meals using the new food pyramid recommendations as a guide.  We follow all dietary and religious restrictions and pay close attention to food allergies. All meals and snacks are included in the tuition. Please visit our nutrition page.

Open Door Policy

Once enrolled, we encourage you to take advantage of our Open Door policy, which means you are welcome to visit us at any time between our opening and closing hours to help acquaint your child with us before his/her actual start date.   It helps your child understand you believe this is a great place to have lots of fun and be cared for!
